South Road tidy up
The Forum has been awarded £2,000 from a tidy high streets fund managed by Zest.
Other shopping areas included in the scheme managed by Zest include Upperthorpe, Sharrow, Hillsborough. With Walkley, they are all in the North West of Sheffield.
The requirements of the funding were that work was to be started by the third week in May.
A start has been made at Walkley Library where the garden boxes have been removed or repaired, and new planting of geranium, lavender, and petunia has been started.
The Walkley Gardening group invited 10 gardening groups on and around South Road to submit small applications to tidy the shopping area, the parking around it, and the green spaces. Each group is responsible for reporting to Zest their activity and spending.
The Walkley Gardening Group has proposed the following works which were approved by Walkley Forum
- Freedom Road Gardening Group – repair benches and take down a tree
- Carnegie Library – removing/restoring boxes and planting, watering can
- Beeches – planting 4 window boxes above shop windows and autumn tidy and planting
- Gerry’s – planting existing tubs and watering can, planting the new square planters when they arrive. Install two benches when square planters arrive.
- Graffiti Clean up South Road
- Lower Walkley Village Green – service mower , plants and shrubs litter picking
